• Gevril

The Gevril name can be traced back to the mid-18th century, 1744 to be exact. This was a nascent year of development for a young Mr. Jacques Gevril. Among his numerous horological innovations was one of the world's first Repetition dial timepieces. His next move was less technological, and more business-like. He was the first exporter of Swiss manufactured timepieces. This proved Mr. Gevril to be a very savvy businessman, and began an illustrious career. Between then and now, like so many other wonderful Swiss manufactures, Gevril became a ghost enterprise only to be resuscitated by one Sam Friedman in 2000...Sam, he most certainly am...! Like the cigar boom in the mid 1990's, where once famous brands were issued new life by virtue of need and popularity, the Gevril manufacture finds its place filling our seemingly insatiable craving for anything manly, and anything mechanical Swiss. The big difference is that timepieces, and their collecting, while somewhat compulsive, will have the long legs to carry itself beyond craze and trend. Certainly beyond the cancerous and tax-full limitations of cigars. No doubt, Gevril will be remembered as one of the early pioneers of this renaissance. As for specifics, the Gevril collection is one of versatility. For a night at the opera, the Avenue of Americas collection for both men and women is beyond peer. For sport, the GV2 collection, particularly their Stadium timepieces are awesome. From moon-phase complications to complete calendar, from GMT to Power Reserve, from Diving watches to Chronograph, Gevril has your complicated bases covered. Jewel counts up to and exceeding thirty-nine spin at a constant rate of 28,800 VPH in all of Gevril's automatic and hand-elaborated movements, while systems for sealing out water and dust make the mechanics inside virtually entombed. Vive le Renaissance...!!
